Complete Streets
The Department of Transportation is requesting information called Improving Road Safety for All on Federal Aid Projects. The FHWA is looking to learn what they can do to help communities build Complete Streets and Complete Networks and improve the safety of federal-aid transportation projects. An IHRB project proposed updates to several sections within the SUDAS Design Manual to further address complete streets. These suggested changes were reviewed at the October district meetings and have been modified based on the comments received at those meetings. The updated sections are as follows:

- Geometric Design Elements (Section 5C-2)
- Complete Streets (Section 5M-1)
- General Sidewalk Requirements (Section 12A-1)
- Accessible Sidewalk Requirements (Section 12A-2)
- Pedestrian Facilities During Construction (Section 12A-4)
- Pedestrian Safety Measures at Crossings (Section 12A-5)
- Selecting Bicycle Facilities (Section 12B-1)
- Shared Use Path Design (Section 12B-2)
- On-Street Bicycle Facilities (Section 12B-3)
- Traffic Signal Features (Section 13A-3)
- Traffic Signal Design Considerations (Section 13A-4)
